Vancouver
I’m heading up to Vancouver later today for work, and I’m hoping to fit in some time to shoot before I head back on Friday. Apparently the forecast for the week is rain, rain, and some more rain, so it’ll be a little like a visit to the motherland (without the 24 hour journey time). I like to travel light on these trips, so I just have my Bessa, a few rolls of Neopan, and a...

Bah.
Vegas was something of a washout, photographically. Well, maybe not a washout, but things certainly didn’t go to plan. My flight was delayed at LAX, and the journey from the airport in Vegas to the hotel was so torturous that, between those two things, I lost almost two hours out of the day. I had somewhere I needed to be later in the day, so my window was closing rapidly. I checked in,...

Vegas
I’m heading to Vegas tomorrow for a company wrap party at the Hard Rock, so I figured I’d get there early and spend the day shooting. I have a box full of Portra, the Mamiya 7, and no idea of where I’m going to go. Should be fun. Nothing beats an aimless walk in an unfamiliar place with a camera in your hand.

Jonesing
Work has been kicking my ass this last couple of weeks, so I’ve done very little but think about the complexities of facial animation, motion capture and the logistical nightmare that is games development; hell, I’ve barely even picked up a camera the last four or five days. Today though, I was driving back from a VO session in Encino, and saw the glorious white expanse of another...
Somewhere to Disappear →
bolus:
“‘Somewhere to Disappear’ is a film about the desire to run away. For his project, ‘Broken Manual’ the photographer Alec Soth traveled across America looking for people who’ve retreated from society. […] This film is about men, America, Alec Soth and the dream to disappear.” The teaser is rather endearing. Thanks Stefan Vanthuyne for the link

Happy Fucking Day
Last night I discovered three rolls of film that I developed, sleeved, then promptly forgot about. Two of the rolls were shot in Albany, NY, back in January 2010. I’m scanning them right now, and the snowy streets look completely alien; looking at them, I can almost feel the cold, the bitter wind, the sharp tang of drawing breath. Living in Southern California can make you miss these things,...
