Tallulah on Carousel, Santa Monica CA, February 2012.
This is an outtake from my (very late) February monthlies, which were all shot on an old borrowed camera. More about that soon.

This photograph seems like a world away. I took it in Hollywood back in early 2007, and it feels like an image from another life; back before I became a father, before I felt comfortable in LA, before I got to know the other photographers I now call my friends and my inspirations, back before strange.rs, before my website, before medium format and considered projects. Back then, it was just a pure urge, a need, an insistent nagging push to document and record. Primal. When I find myself over-thinking photography, I try to put myself back in that mindset and trust my instincts. Making photographs like this one; pure joyous expression.
